Crispy Deep Fried Enoki & White Mushroom

Crispy Deep Fried Mushroom – hot, crunchy and definitely has less calories than you regular fried chicken, but taste just as good as fried chicken. Did you know that you can make a great snack out of mushroom? I’m sharing with you one of my less-guilt snacks which is Crispy Deep Fried Mushroom, using enoki and white mushroom. Basically, you are covering the mushroom in a batter with all the seasoning and deep fry them. It makes a great for appetizer as well.

Crispy Deep Fried Enoki & White Mushroom

When I was back in Indonesia, during one outing, my friend ordered this fried enoki mushroom in one of the food court stalls. It was my first time knowing that you can actually fry mushroom, I have never seen anything like it, and the taste was delicious. Ever since, I was inspired to make this crispy deep fried enoki mushroom at home. I don’t remember exactly how the fried enoki mushroom snack that my friend ordered taste like, but the below recipe version of mine is approved by the kids! Well, maybe I was a bit sneaky to get them to try, I didn’t tell them that it’s basically mushroom until after their first bite, but they love it.

I would say it tastes best when it’s just out of the fryer – hot and crunchy. It’s a great appetizer before your main meal. You can try it with the sauce below or, even better, try it with your favorite condiment!

Tip: For vegan-friendly option, substitute egg with iced water. If you want to have thicker coating, put the coated mushrooms back to the egg/iced water and coat them one more time
